The following are just a few of the many wonderful letters we received from St Olave’s School. If your school raises money for charity write and tell us about it.
Dear Editor
I am wrting to tell you about the charities our school supports. We support Click Cancer Care for Children, Smile shoe boxes for Kosovo, The Salvation Army and The Stephen Jota Centre. The one I am going to tell you about is The Stephen Jota Centre in Uganda. The Centre is an orphanage as well as a school. We sponsor two children. Joseph who is 8 and Gloria who is 7. Their birthdays are 18th June and 3rd January. The money helps pay for school dinners, uniform and learning equipment. We get the money through our ‘Drop it in the Drum’ scheme. Children bring spare change in and put it into an African drum. The teachers take part in this aswell. To raise extra money we had an Africa week, when we dressed up in the colours of an African flag, had a disco and stalls. The extra money that is raised is given to the Centre. They have used it for a clean water system to pump the water and a kitchen. Before they used to walk down a hill and collect it by hand. This is important to us becaue we are ‘M.A.D.’ – ‘making a difference’ to less fortunate people.
Yours sincerely

Dear Editor
I’m writing to tell you about the charities our school support. At our primary school we have a ‘Drop it in the Drum’ Scheme, which delivers impressive results; children and the teacher drop any loose change in the drum. This money helps send two children to school in Uganda, they’re Joseph and Gloria. Joseph and Gloria only need £15 a month collectively, but we raise so much more that that; the fifteen pounds we send them pays for their uniform and school lunches. Extra money was raised by having theme weeks, weeks which included running stalls, paying to come in in our own clothes etc. When we have enough money left over, we send it off to Uganda in a large cheque. The last time we did this the Stephen Jota Centre spent the money on a water tower so they don’t have to travel down the hill, fill up six barrels and then lug it back up the hill. They also installed a kitchen and pipes so they can have clean flowing water. We also support other charities including The Salvation Army, Smile and CLICK.
Helping these many charities gives me a warm glow inside because we are making a difference.
Yours sincerely
Henry
Dear Editor
I am writing to tell you how interested I was when I read your article about Water for Kids and I was deeply moved. My name is Angharad Hunter and I go to St. Olaves Prep School. My school does lots for charity.
A few years ago we had an Africa Week where we raised just over £800 for the Stephen Jottar Centre in Africa which is a school founded by Smile. During our Africa Week we had African Drummers and an African work shop. Some of the money we raised went towards two children we still sponsor in Africa called Joseph and Gloria. Every month we send out money to pay for their schooling and uniform, we get the money from a system we call ‘Drop it in the Drum’. What happens is all the children in the school drop their 1ps and 2ps in to a converted drum. Any money left over we also send to the Stephen Jotta Centre so they can improve their facilities. Most recently the extra we sent over brought them a new kitchen and a water pump.
I hope my letter will inspire many others to help this and many other worthy causes.
Your sincerely
Angharad
